Aries: Nature reveals the self
This time around the zodiac cycle feels different
I have been taking time off from seeing clients this week to allow myself some unscheduled space. That lack of structure must have spilled into my other work, because throughout the week I took a few stabs at writing this post, but the sentences felt forced and the energy fizzled.
Aries woke me up this morning around 4:00 a.m. It wasn’t quite a dream, but a few thoughts urging me awake. I jotted down these notes and went back to sleep.
Aries
Taking responsibility for what you desire to bring into the world
Preparing as best you can
Mistakes are part of it
I left the puzzle pieces of dream time to marinate, and in my daily group meditation over YouTube, in floated these words (paraphrased) from Insight Meditation Center instructor Ying Chen:
Nature will reveal the self without “selfing”, without tinkering with it.
When seen, the second arrow falls away on its own. This is the nature of the dharma.
Choosing non-suffering over suffering is a natural choice.
If you are unfamiliar with the concept of the first and second arrows, it goes something like:
The first arrow is a misfortune that simply happens to you.
The second arrow is the suffering you add to that misfortune via your reaction to the misfortune.
Aries is perhaps the most natural energy of the zodiac, in that it spontaneously bursts forth. It cannot help itself, much like that first arrow. Aries is bound to make mistakes because it doesn’t have experience doing whatever it is doing. To Aries, it’s no big deal. It’s the first time, after all. However, as we move around the zodiac, we acquire a self-critical eye, we encounter others and realize we can blame them, then we feel disempowered by the systems and structures. We collect a quiver of narratives from which to choose a second arrow.
Also part of Aries’ energy may be to let go of the old - those tired narratives - in order to get back to our truest nature:
Choosing non-suffering over suffering is a natural choice.
Haven’t those narratives caused enough pain? So, we stop tinkering. The second, third, and fourth arrows remain in the quiver. Our natural self is revealed.
Another piece of the puzzle came as a channeled message. I asked spirit for some input for the collective, and sat down with my journal in the morning sunshine, Rei digging yet another hole in my backyard nearby.
Here is what came:
How well do you know yourself? That is the task at hand. For when you do not know yourself deeply, you make unwise decisions. Not intentionally, of course, but the underlying logic will be faulty or non-existent.
Look back at the times when you have taken a path or course of action that did not feel good to you, even if it delivered what was expected.
These detours are often part of a soul plan. To learn experientally what you are not meant to repeat in this life - and why. Yet, they sometimes become patterns of passive decision making, because it is hard work to examine one’s patterns and delve into the root cause. And then do something about it.
Yet that is the work your soul hoped for you to do. Other souls rely on you to do your part. Discover what this work is. Take small steps. It will be unglamorous and often difficult. Living without depth and individual purpose is also difficult.
The Andromedans
The takeaway for me is that “natural” is not always easy (just ask any plant or non-human animal). Nature includes struggle as part of growth. For humans, it requires emotional, psychological, and spiritual responsibility, as well - for we have the means to respond in very complex ways built into our nature via free will.
Maybe this time around, Aries’ role is not to simply start the wheel of the year with brute force. There is a simple sophistication inherent to Aries’ nature, ready to aid us with some nuanced work.
As always, please take what resonates and leave the rest. I am always interested in your thoughts, so leave a comment if you are inclined. And please share my work with others who you think would find it interesting.
