Considering the upcoming full moon in Aries
Leaving evidence that we were here and our existence mattered
When was the last time you made something deeply meaningful to you? Whether you consider yourself artistic or not, you are wired to create. It is when we ignore that inherent desire that we find ourselves discontent and disconnected. The full moon phase makes visible the unease we may have been sensing for some time, yet are unwilling to look at.
Perhaps you feel you have legitimate reasons for not living creatively. At the top may be that the busy-ness of mundane life does not allow you the time or energy to create a novel or a knitted blanket or a still life watercolor or pot of soup. This full moon asks us to broaden our definition of creativity to include our everyday motivations, movements, and interactions. As well, to consider what any of those things we are so busy with mean to us, and if they will mean anything to future inhabitants of Earth.
Whoa, you might say. This feels so confrontational! Full moons are meant to be. As well, messenger Mercury in Scorpio is making a square aspect to Pluto in Aquarius, emphasizing the no bullshit stance of an Aries full moon. An Aries moon does not like to sit on the bench of life, so if you have been glued to your metaphorical seat for some time, this may feel like a kick in the butt.
The Sun is said to be in its fall in Libra, not referring to the season, but to its discomfort in this sign. The Sun wants to unabashedly express itself, and in Libra, it cannot do that because it is always considering relationships first and foremost. As with all things Libra, it’s a question of balance rather than a binary choice.
The relevant Sabian Symbols and keynotes from Dane Rudhyar for this lunation:
Moon (Aries 14/15°): A Native American weaving a ceremonial blanket. Keynote: Projecting into everyday living the realization of wholeness and fulfillment.
Sun (Libra 14/15°): Circular paths. Keynote: Coming to terms with the inevitability of establishing steady rhythms of social activity.
Mercury (0/1° Scorpio): A crowded sightseeing bus on a city street. Keynote: The fundamental human eagerness to expand one’s social horizon and to experience the results of collective achievements and new ways of life.
Taken together, these symbols and the energy of the full moon phase speak to creating something of both practical and spiritual importance through work that may at times be tedious and individual, yet is also a participatory and lasting expression of culture.
This message resonates deeply with me, because over the recent eclipse season, I found myself spinning out once or twice over leaving a career to follow a calling. What have I done? Am I even helping anyone? Does my work matter, or am I delusional? I wondered. I have no security, no easy way to explain myself to the average person on the street without sounding crazy, etc., etc. Circular thinking ensued, highlighting the me (Aries) and them (Libra) axis, questioning my psychological motivation (Mercury in Scorpio), and impact on the group (Pluto in Aquarius).
In other words, I was being self-indulgent and fell prey to the very fears that kept me numbing out and previously in a life which held no meaning (other than to the flimsiest parts of my ego), with no meaningful connections to other people, and tied to an industry whose legacy will be questionable, at best. Kudos to my former self for getting out of the bus as a spectator, but now I am feeling that isn’t enough - for me, or for the current or future collective.
Rather than criticize myself or anyone else trying to change the values long upheld by the culture which is breaking us, instead I seek to widen my perspective inch by dark inch by changing what I focus on. We are conditioned to pay attention to the loud and shiny people at the party, boasting about their past achievements and future conquests, not the quiet group in the corner having a serious and wide-ranging discussion by candlelight. The full moon spotlights this corner and invites us to have a seat.

Hello reader! Every Wednesday, I post the notes from this week’s episode of Maria Luz’s Conscious Curiosities podcast. I recently released some free tools, including this one on Planets.
Unlocking Your Birth Chart: Mercury, Venus, & Mars
This guide is meant to help you understand why you communicate (Mercury), relate (Venus), and take action (Mars) the way you do.

Maria, I’m amazed and grateful how your posts seem to pinpoint something I’m going through or contemplating (or struggling with!) Thank you for being here…what you’re doing does make a difference.
Thank you for including the Libra Sun, an oblique reminder that the Sun's sign is also planet Earth's sign. Which we don't think of often enough. I appreciate your work, Maria!
