Curious about my sobriety story?
maybe my story will sound familiar
Getting and staying sober has unlocked life for me in ways I could never have imagined. Think I am exaggerating? Read some of these posts and decide for yourself.
I started writing on Substack in February of 2024, and within a few months, felt spirit asking me to share honestly about sobriety and recovery. I was scared, but I complied. I have always taken things a bit too literally, and I began sharing verbatim, simply reading from my old journal, which I kept faithfully - and in great detail - from my last Day One, November 4, 2022.
Who wants to read about what I am making for dinner, or whether I did yoga or weights?
Others trying to get sober! I realized early on that by breaking my days into manageable decisions and tasks, I was teaching my brain that I could take care of myself, as well as providing it something other than alcohol cravings to ruminate on. Believe it or not, reading about others’ experiences getting sober, no matter how dry, can be really helpful. If nothing else, it is evidence that it can be done.

I also used my journal to unpack how alcohol first set up camp in my life, and then refused to leave. Which led to making connections between my story and all the myriad ways our patriarchal society controls so many of us. I explore these themes via the language of astrology, and in the weekly recovery-focused audio posts I did for a stretch of time.
If you enjoy the journal entries, you can find dozens of entries on the Sobriety & Recovery tab. And if you are not familiar with Sober App on Substack, it is a great source of inspiration on a regular basis.

Dude, your journey has truly been one for the books! 📚 And as per usual, I have so much to comment on that I freeze up. ☺️
